David Margam: Best Smooth Jazz Guitarist 2024 and Leader of an Exceptional International Career (Funkmania Radio Awards 2025)
Guitarist, composer, producer and radio host, David Margam is an emblematic figure of smooth jazz and contemporary music. Born in Granada, Spain, in 2023 he presented his debut album, ‘Immune’, a work that brings together more than 30 years of musical career. This album combines genres such as funk, smooth jazz, bossa, gospel and R&B, and features the collaboration of prominent international musicians, including J. Michaels, Jimmy Østbygaard, Carlos Camilo, Lee Jones, Gianni Vancini, and the Spanish Rosa Lazar, María Romero and Sergio Hidalgo, among others.
With eleven tracks produced by renowned producers from Europe and the United States, ‘Immune’ is a musical experience rich in cultural diversity and emotion, conceived during the 2020 pandemic. Each song reflects a sonic journey full of tropical and urban nuances, with melodies that stay with you and strengthen the soul. This album managed to stand out on important international lists, such as the UK Soul Chart Breakers and the SmoothJazz.club TOP 100 among others, consolidating Margam as a benchmark in the international scene.
David Margam is also recognized as a founding member of Funkdacion, the Spanish funk band par excellence, with which he has released seven albums since 1995. In addition, he is the creator of the MARHID project, together with pianist and producer Sergio Hidalgo, whose single ‘Sensibility’ was awarded at the 9th Annual OWMR Awards in the United Kingdom. His international collaborations and innovative approach have positioned him as one of the most influential guitarists of the new generation of smooth jazz.
As a radio host and creator of Funkmania Radio, Margam celebrates and spreads the sounds of funk, smooth jazz and R&B. This project, which became a radio station in 2021, has been running for 25 years and has earned him recognition as an Ambassador of Smooth Jazz in Spain by the international platform Smooth Jazz Universe Magazine.
David Margam is currently working on his next album, which is scheduled for release in spring 2025. This new project will feature collaborations with important artists from the contemporary scene such as Miami saxophonists Lee Jones and Jorge Pinelo, Cuban pianist Roberto Vazquez, Austrian producer and guitarist Horst Lippitsch, Italian pianist and producer Diego Calcagno, and from Chicago John Carey, producer and guitarist. Together with the Spanish Andrés García and Sergio Hidalgo, among others, it promises to be a truly exciting album. This new work will be a continuation of his career, taking his musical passion from Granada to the world and consolidating him as one of the most prominent figures on the international music scene.
